The Messenger
digital 2008
The Messenger in the sky is from my first pencil drawing of a raptor -- a juvenile hawk -- circa 1984

I developed this piece from a photograph I'd taken at the 2007 National Aboriginal Arts Administrators and Funders Gathering in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba. Attending as a delegate was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

I was also a delegate at the 2006 NAAFG Gathering,
graciously hosted by the Innu community in Sept-Iles, Quebec.

The 2007 theme of 'Elders and Youth' over the three days of meeting and sharing with artists and arts administrators from across Canada from every discipline -- dance, music, visual -- had a powerful impact on me.

The large tipi created especially for this Gathering set a record as the world's largest tipi.

I'm a member of the Abenaki First Nation at Odanak, Quebec, Canada.
